FAIRYLAND TRUST AIMS

an audience with the fairy queen 1. Encouraging Conservation Through Discovering Nature's Magic
The Fairyland Trust aims to engage children, families and others in conservation, by appreciating the magic of nature. It uses myths, legends, folklore and magical traditions to introduce ecology and natural history. It works to encourage the exploration and discovery of wildlife and natural places and things through enjoyment and by stimulating the imagination. Because of this, it does not use images of fairies, elves or other 'magical things' - only nature itself.

To do this the Trust runs events such as Fairy Fairs and Workshops which provide a safe and enjoyable experience or day out for children and families. It also researches and gathers information about our folk heritage, and the way it binds us to nature. It uses this information to create new, fun and intriguing experiences for people of all ages, in which "discovery leads imagination by the hand". The Trust believes that by making nature fun, we can reach new audiences for conservation. Its events combine ecology and performance to create a memorable experience.

2. Introducing Nature To Our lives
The Trust helps children and families create Fairy Gardens of real wild flowers which they can grow at home - in a garden or just in a window box - and help bring more nature into everyday life. Through its Workshops and other activities it also helps children create their own connections with nature, for example by making magic wands from native British trees.

3. Celebrating and Protecting Magical Places
One day the Trust hopes to run its own Real Fairylands - places where it conserves and enhances existing ancient habitats for people to experience and enjoy. It also collects contributions from any member of the public for its Fairy Places gazeteer of Britain - sharing special locations whivch have that elusive but widely appreciated quality of "making the hair stand up on the back of your neck": truly magical landscapes.
