Bayfield Hall Fairy Fair - 7 July 2002

More than one thousand attend first fairy fair

Britain's first conservation Fairy Fair attracted over one thousand visitors - mostly children, when it ran yesterday at Bayfield Hall, North Norfolk. "We were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm" said co-ordinator Sarah Wise. "We ran out of fairy cakes by two o'clock and buttercups were the number one choice by children making fairy gardens to take home. We thought their parents might not want weeds, in the garden but they were very happy. Older people were saying 'look, I want one of those', 'I remember them', 'I didn't realise you could buy wildflowers'. It was a terrific response - three times what we expected."
